Soma FM: Underground Radio

My buddy Brian Flood just hipped me to this internet radio station a few days back, and I haven't been able to turn it off.

Soma FM is an internet radio station based out of San Francisco, CA. The site offers up 14 different channels of commercial-free music, and sustains itself from donations, much like terrestrial public radio. The stations are geared towards fans of electronic music, but cover a broad range of genres. Aside from electronic offerings for every mood, Soma also serves up bachelor pad mixes (Illinois Street Lounge channel), and avant-garde EuroJazz (Sonic Universe Channel), to name a few.

My personal favorite station is "Digitalis" which offers "Digitally affected analog rock with a DIY mentality." There are frequent plays from people like Four Tet, Thom Yorke, The Album Leaf, and Boards of Canada. In between the more established artists are dozens upon dozens of indie electronic artists, most of whom i've never heard of. Funnily enough, as I was listening today a buddy of mine came on the rotation; a dude by the name of Nuuro (who you need to check out ASAP, if you haven't already).

The sets flow very naturally and always offer top-notch music (no cheesy techno throwaways around here) What amazed me was how defined each station's style was. The music on "Digitalis" in particular is so wonderfully ordered, I haven't heard a song I've disliked so far (which doesn't happen too often with internet radio for me).

Head on over to the website and hear what you've been missing.

If i've already convinced you, click here to play the "Digitalis" station through iTunes.

bye for now.....

Jacko Plans to Return Beatles Catalog to Sir Paul

from The Mirror, UK

Jackson, 50, who according to some reports is convinced he is dying and has been using a wheelchair, has drawn up a new will where Sir Paul, 66, will inherit control of his share of the Beatles songbook if the troubled star dies before him.

Sources close to Jacko say he has always regretted falling out with Macca. One insider said: “Michael is worried about his health so decided it was time to look at his finances.

“Most of his estate has been divided up between his three children. But Michael told his lawyers he was sad he no longer talks to Sir Paul and said he wanted to make things right.”
